ALASKA PORT TOURS / TRAVELER INFORMATION

About Alaska Port Tours

Alaska Port Tours helps cruise passengers choose a shore excursion in Southeast Alaska. We compare the tours sold on Viator in each port, explain what a day on each one involves, and send you to Viator to book.

We cover Juneau, Sitka and Icy Strait Point first. Skagway and Haines come next.

Who publishes the site

Alaska Port Tours is published by ScalePact, a marketing business that works with tour operators. Hamza Liaqat runs it.

ScalePact publishes a small group of tour comparison sites, each built the same way: one destination, the tours Viator sells there, the filters set out on how we choose tours, and the same rules about what a page may and may not claim.

We’re a publisher, not a tour company. We don’t own boats or buses, we don’t employ guides, and we don’t take bookings ourselves.

What the site covers

Juneau104Juneau shore excursions, whale watching, and guides to Mendenhall Glacier and the rest of the town
Sitka60Sitka shore excursions, whale watching, wildlife tours and a port day guide

Tour counts are from our research in November 2026 and change as operators add and drop listings.

The site is for people arriving by ship with a day or less in port. That’s why every page talks about time: how far the dock is from the boat harbor, how long the bus takes, and whether the trip gets you back with room to spare before all aboard.

We don’t cover cruise lines, ships or the ports outside Southeast Alaska’s Inside Passage.

How the pages fit together

Each port has one page comparing every kind of shore excursion there, sorted by how much time it takes. Under it sit pages for the trips people search for by name, such as whale watching from Auke Bay in Juneau or the sea otter boats in Sitka Sound. Those pages put the tours side by side, explain the day hour by hour, and name the trip we’d pick.

The guides do a different job. Our Mendenhall Glacier guide, for instance, covers the bus, the trails and Nugget Falls for people going on their own, and only points to a tour where a tour genuinely saves time.

Every tour in a grid also has its own page on this site. Click a card and you land there first: the listing details, where it meets, what’s included, how it compares with the others. The button to book on Viator is on that page.

What we do and what we don’t

What we do:

  • Compare the tours Viator sells in each port against the same filters, and say which trip we’d pick and which we’d skip.
  • Explain the day: where you meet, how you get there from the ship, what’s included, what to bring.
  • Credit the travelers whose videos taught us something, by name, in the sentence that uses it.
  • Recheck every listing quarterly and log what we correct.

What we don’t do:

  • Sell tours or take payment. Viator does that, and the operator runs the trip. If something goes wrong with a booking, our booking help page says who to contact.
  • List wine, brewery or distillery tours. That’s a choice we make across all our sites.
  • Take money from operators for a place on a page.

The site earns a commission from Viator on bookings made through it. Our editorial policy explains where our information comes from and how we’re paid.

How to reach us

Email hello@alaskaporttours.com about anything: a listing that looks wrong, a correction, a tour we should look at, or a partnership. We reply within 3 business days.

For a problem with a booking you’ve already made, the operator or Viator will get you an answer faster than we can, because they hold the booking. Our contact page says who to write to about what.

FAQ

Are you a tour company? No. Alaska Port Tours is a comparison site published by ScalePact. The tours are run by local operators in each port and booked through Viator.

Why only some Alaska ports? We add a port when we’ve done the research for it: the listings, the search data and the traveler videos. Juneau, Sitka and Icy Strait Point are live; Skagway and Haines are being built in that order.
