Corrections

When we get a fact wrong on Alaska Port Tours and fix it, the fix is recorded here: the date, the page, what it said and what it says now. Newest first. Nothing is edited out of this list once it's in.

The log

No corrections yet. The site launched on the date shown below, and this page will list every factual correction from then on.

An empty log isn’t a claim that the site has no errors. It means nobody has found one yet, including us. If you spot one, the next section says how to tell us.

How to report an error

Email hello@alaskaporttours.com with “Correction” in the subject line. We reply within 3 business days.

Tell us three things:

  1. The page. Paste the address, for example alaskaporttours.com/juneau-tours/whale-watching/.
  2. The sentence. Copy in the words that are wrong, so we’re looking at the same thing.
  3. What’s right, and how you know. The current Viator listing, your booking confirmation, a sign at the dock, the operator’s own site or a park service page all work. So does “I was there last week and it’s changed.”

You don’t need all three to write. A rough pointer is enough for us to go and check.

If the problem is with a booking rather than a page, such as a refund, a changed time or a cancelled boat, we can’t fix that. Viator and the operator can, and our booking help page says which one to contact. Our contact page covers everything else.

What counts as a correction

A correction is any change to a fact a reader might have relied on. On a booking site that usually means one of these:

  • what a tour includes or leaves out, such as lunch, park entry or the bus to the boat
  • where it meets, when check-in is, and how long it runs
  • whether a price is per person or per group, or whether a tour is private or shared
  • season dates, closures and opening hours
  • a traveler finding credited to the wrong video or channel
  • a tour placed on the wrong page, or a verdict we gave that rested on a wrong fact

Fixing a typo, tightening a sentence or adding a new section isn’t a correction, and it won’t appear here.

What happens after you write

We check the claim against the current listing or the source you gave. If you’re right, the page is fixed and the change goes in the log above with the date. If a fact changed the advice on a page, such as which tour we’d pick, we say so in the log entry.

If we can’t confirm it either way, we write back and say what we found. Sometimes the honest fix is to change a firm sentence into “check your listing”, and that counts as a correction too.

We reply whether or not we make a change.

Listing changes and our mistakes

Not every wrong sentence starts as our mistake. Operators change their tours between seasons: a new boat, a different float at Auke Bay, a combo that drops its glacier stop. A page that was right in spring can be wrong by August.

We recheck every listing on the site each quarter, and again whenever we write about a tour. When a page no longer matches its listing, the listing wins and the page changes.

Both kinds go in the log. The entry says which it was, “listing changed” or “our error”, because readers deserve to know whether we misread something or the operator moved on. Over time that line tells you how careful we’ve been.

Prices aren’t part of this. Our pages don’t quote them; the live price is on each tour’s card and on Viator.
